Adriana Gonzalez Pestana
Adriana Gonzalez-Pestana, from Lima, Peru, is a marine biologist and PhD candidate at Charles Darwin University. She was part of Peru’s first graduating class in marine biology and earned a Master’s in Fisheries Biology and Management from James Cook University. Adriana has authored more than 30 scientific publications. Her research broadly focuses on marine conservation, particularly sharks and rays, fisheries management, spatial planning, and socio-ecological resilience. She contributes to the IUCN’s global project mapping critical shark and ray habitats since it was launched in 2022. Adriana also promotes ocean conservation through outdoor education and storytelling in coastal communities, especially among children.
