Joachim B. Bretzel

Joachim Bretzel is a freshwater fish ecologist specialising in aquatic conservation in regulated river systems. He completed his PhD at Charles Sturt University (CSU), investigating fish entrainment and impingement at water diversions and the effectiveness of fish-protection screens. He is currently a Fisheries Scientist with Australasian Fish Passage Services and an Adjunct Research Fellow at CSU. His research focuses on fish passage, community and movement ecology, water infrastructure impacts, and the design and evaluation of measures to improve connectivity and habitat in regulated rivers. Joachim works across applied fisheries research and monitoring projects throughout eastern Australia to support evidence-based management and conservation of freshwater fish.
