The Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder (‘CEWH’) holds and uses a significant portfolio of water licences to improve river and wetland environments in the Murray-Darling Basin. This includes the delivery of environmental flows to support our important native fish populations. To do this effectively, the CEWH uses information and knowledge from multiple partners and sources to gain the best available knowledge. This knowledge then supports decisions on when and how to use our water licences to maximise native fish environmental outcomes, build resilience and reduce the risk posed by extreme events.  This knowledge is also used to identify where additional complementary measures such as fishways will aid these outcomes.  We will use our watering in the Lower Warrego over recent years as a case study to demonstrate how multiple partnerships allow for adaptive management during watering, and posit a future where expanded partnerships continue to improve the positive outcomes the CEWH achieves.
